Great Wine Brings Good Luck – Words of Wisdom

After much-needed rest from the excitement of the 2010 Chefs Under Fire Culinary Competition, the Keeper team is excited to get back to the fun of blogging on “Where in the World is Keeper?”.  And, speaking of world travels, we hope 2010 Chefs Under Fire Champion Chef Christina Lee of Central Market Cooking School is looking forward to enjoying her grand prize trip to Cabo San Lucas. We can’t wait to find out what delicacies she created in her private kitchen in Cabo.

Those who attended Chefs Under Fire 2010 were the first to hear about an upcoming exclusive event featuring “Mugnier, Martray, & More” from Selection Becky Wasserman. Anyone who follows this blog knows that the Keeper team is all about hands-on research! So what better way to delve into planning this next event than to sample wines from Domaine Jacques-Frederic Mugnier! This opportunity was brought to us by a good Keeper friend who invited us to attend the University of Texas home football game against Florida Atlantic. Knowing how the season’s been progressing, it was suggested that we prepare for potential disappointment by first enjoying a fine Burgundy wine tasting before going to the game. We were greeted with a 2002 Frederic Mugnier Chambolle-Musigny to begin our football evening.

No matter the outcome of the game, we knew this day was a winner. This Chambolle-Musigny from Domain Jacques-Frederic Mugnier was everything and more than Allen Meadows of Burghound.com stated in his tasting note from January 1, 2005: “Very fresh, rich and expressively pure and entirely classic red Pinot fruit aromas introduce sappy, racy and slightly edgy flavors that possess really lovely fruit/acid balance. In short, this is one pretty wine.” Indeed, everyone was a winner that day – the UT Longhorns were victorious, and we got to enjoy an awesome wine.
