If you’ve been following our previous posts (Part I & Part II), leaving Puglia was clearly saddening, but we said our goodbyes to Monopoli while continuing our food adventures to the northeastern corner of Italy, Alto Adige. We experienced cuisine that had both local Italian and German influence. We also enjoyed a wine tour and a spontaneous detour to Austria.

Buongiorno from the Keeper Team!

While planning our trip to Italy, one of the best decisions that Southern Visions, our awesome vacation guru, helped us make was to stay in an apartment rather than a hotel in Monopoli so that we had our own kitchen to cook in.  Besides, even after two days, our clothes were starting to feel tighter (only an itsy bit) from the richness and quantity of food from eating out (not to mention the thinning of our wallets).   With all of this in mind, the Keeper Team was excited to hit up the local market for fresh fish and vegetables.

For the past couple of weeks we’ve been eating good food, drinking good wine, and having a GOOD time.  The Keeper team just got home from Italy and we have so much to share.  We decided that we wanted to divide and conquer the country – North, South, East, and West – to find the freshest foods and best Italian cooking.

Arming ourselves with online cookbooks such as Chef David Bull’s, Bull’s Eye on Food and the Wine and Food Foundation’s Plate and Vine, we were fully prepared to cook some of our favorite recipes in Italy – ya know, just practicing for when we live out our fantasy of traveling when we retire to Italy to spend the rest of our days cooking divine meals and indulging in beautiful Italian wine at sunset in a quaint (yet spectacular) Italian Villa! Part of our team took on the northwest side of Italy, tasting foods in the Italian Riviera and slipping into France. The other part of the team traveled to Northern and Southern Italy and even snuck on over to Innsbruck, Austria.  Life’s rough, huh?

So first of all, this is our first post for the Alcoholian, and we are so excited to be a part of it! Although we could never match johngl’s humor and wit, we will do our best! Last night’s dinner at Wink was just too amazing not to share.

For those of you who don’t know (which almost brings a tear to my eye!), Wink Restaurant is one of the greatest treasures of Austin, located at 1014 North Lamar. The menu changes EVERYDAY, depending on what is fresh and available from Texas farms, foragers, gardens, and ranches. My husband and I frequent Wink, knowing that we’ll be blown away each and every time. Last night proved to be nothing but delicious, maybe even qualifying as one of the best ever at Wink! It is always a joy to consume a meal in which all ingredients of each course complement each other as masterfully as our menu last night (hence the title of this post). Enough rambling? Ready for the food?? Drum roll..here we go…
